Stockpile project

The ratification of the Ottawa Convention by the Government of Angola in July 2002 illustrates the Government’s commitment towards mine-action and opens new perspectives for consolidating security, peace and development in Angola.  This project aims to ensure the Country compliancy with Article 4 of Ottawa Convention by supporting the identification and destruction of stockpiled anti-personnel landmines.  It is expected to benefit the whole population of the country, including returning refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).  Angolan national authority for mine-action, the National Inter-Sectoral Commission for De-mining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH) will implement the project with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  Other project partners will include Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) under Ministry of Defense (MOD), and National De-mining Institute (INAD) under Ministry of Social Assistance and Reintegration (MINARS).  Throughout the project-period, UNDP will make a particular effort in building up the capacities of Angolan national authorities to consolidate civilian security in the country.

The total project cost is Euro 1,765,000 for the maximum duration of two years.
